A group of British Zoologists say they have discovered a new species of shrew

A long snout is the most notorious of the anatomy of a group of scientists recently discovered in Africa. According to zoologists in charge of the discovery spread, it could be, for its unique characteristics, a new species of elephant shrew.

A member of the Zoological Society of London was the first to spot the animal, whose primary habitat is the forests of the east coast of Africa, but was unable to classify. After this first sighting, the ZSL and a local institution cameras installed along the Kenyan coast and after a while managed to record images of the elusive animal.

the new discovery is confirmed, the number of species of giant shrew, a mammal that shares ancestry with elephants (so that English be called giant elephant shrew), could increase to 18.

missing confirmation

"They are very charismatic, with a past often misunderstood, monogamous and flexible snout," said Galen Rathbun of Academy of Sciences of California.

genetic analysis and eventually several scientific evidence to confirm whether the discovery is important enough to be talking about a new species.
